Sign Up for Tahoe Bike Month!

Gather your friends, family, and coworkers for a month-long celebration of biking in Tahoe. Together with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has been celebrating Tahoe Bike Month for the past 18 years.

Ride your bike to work or school, around town, or just for fun, tracking your rides over the course of the month. And check out tahoebikemonth.org for the events calendar to join the fun throughout the month of June!

Frequently Asked Questions

Strava is a free application that you can use to track your bike rides. Their paid plan is not required. You can use the Strava app for iOS or Android to automatically track your rides with GPS. Or you can log into strava.com on your computer or phone and enter the details of each ride manually. Every time you record a ride on Strava, your stats will be added to the Leaderboards at tahoebikemonth.org, and you'll be entered again into the raffle for prizes.

Independent from Bike Month, you can follow your friends on Strava and give them kudos and comments on their rides. There is a "challenges" feature within the Strava app, but that is not related to Tahoe Bike Month.

When you Connect With Strava, you'll be asked for permission to share your Strava data with Tahoe Bike Month:
  • Access to your Public Profile is required in order to load your name and profile picture on the Tahoe Bike Month website.
  • Access to your Activities is required in order to count your rides towards Bike Month. We will access information about your Activities like the distance and elevation gained in order to score points. We’ll use their start locations in order to count the total rides within each region of Lake Tahoe. We’ll publicly share a link to view your Biggest Ride on Strava, but Strava’s privacy settings will apply so the link will not work for anybody who doesn’t have access to view the activity. We will publicly share aggregated statistics like mileage totals for the month.
  • You can optionally grant us access to your Private Activities. This way you can share a ride with “only me” but still have the mileage count towards Bike Month. Otherwise only rides shared with friends or the public will count. Sometimes the "only me" feature is handy if you are logging many rides to run errands and you don't want to overwhelm your friends in Strava.
  • We do not access your heart rate data. The strava webpage might call this out because they are able to keep track of this "medical information" from your smart watch, but it is not used for Tahoe Bike Month.

You can revoke access at any time at strava.com/settings/apps.
